History:

Archibald Boyd, a Scot from Selkirkshire, was the district's first European settler, guided here by bearded stockmen William Chandler and John Duval. The town was gazetted in 1852. The Standing Stones of Glen Innes are a monument to the contribution of the Celts to the District since this time. The town is known as the Celtic Capital.

Location:
Ideally located at the intersection of the Gwydir and New England Highways, within easy reach of Gilbralter Range and Washpool National Parks, which are world heritage listed. Four hours from Brisbane and seven hours from Sydney via the New England Highway.
